Punjab: Gangster Goldy Brar's Parents Arrested In 2024 Ransom And Death Threat Case

Chandigarh: A major action has been taken in a case linked to notorious gangster Goldy Brar in Sri Muktsar Sahib district of Punjab. The Punjab Police have arrested Goldy Brar's parents in a case related to extortion and death threats. This arrest was made based on an FIR registered in 2024 at Sadar Police Station, Sri Muktsar Sahib.

Under what sections were the arrests made?

According to the police, the accused Shamsher Singh (son of Gurbaksh Singh) and his wife Preetpal Kaur have been arrested under FIR number 233 dated December 3, 2024. Both the accused are residents of Adesh Nagar, Street Number-1, Sector Number-1, Kotkapura Road, Sri Muktsar Sahib. A case has been registered under Sections 308(4), 351(1), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

What is the whole case?

The complainant in this case is Satnam Singh, a resident of village Udekarana, who has been working in the education department for the past 33 years. Currently, he is posted as an SLA at Government Girls Senior Secondary Samrat School, Bathinda Road, Sri Muktsar Sahib.

What did Satnam Singh tell the police?

In his statement to the police, Satnam Singh stated that on November 27, 2024, between approximately 10:30 and 11:00 AM, while on duty, he received a call from a foreign WhatsApp number. The caller identified himself as a member of the Bambiha group and, after confirming his identity, demanded a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh. The accused threatened to kill him and his family if the money was not paid. The caller also claimed to have complete information about his family and his house on Kotkapura Road.

According to the victim, he received similar threatening calls about three more times that day, which terrified him, and he did not tell anyone about it. On December 3, 2024, another call came from the same foreign number, which he did not answer due to fear. He remained mentally disturbed throughout the day.

After discussing the matter with his family, Satnam Singh, along with his brother Gursewak Singh, went to the Sadar police station and informed the police about the entire incident. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and started an investigation, following which Goldy Brar's parents were arrested.

Currently, the police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and are trying to ascertain who else is involved in the conspiracy of threats and extortion.

What do we know about Goldy Brar's parents?

SSP Sri Muktsar Sahib confirmed the arrests and said that Goldy Brar's parents were arrested from Amritsar and will be produced in the Muktsar court tomorrow morning. They were staying in a hotel near Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple). At the time the FIR was registered, the Bambiha gang and Goldy Brar were working together. Their parents are involved because they do not have any significant source of income and live off the ransom money, which is why we took action. The SSP added that Goldy Brar's father himself has been dismissed from his job.
